AyCode next to the other apps for coding agents
There are good apps for coding agents now, and some may suit you better than AyCode. Here is what each one is made for, what it runs on and which agents it runs, taken from its own pages.
- Claude Desktop and the Codex app each run their own maker’s agent.
- Conductor runs Claude Code, Codex and Cursor agents in parallel, on the Mac.
- T3 Code is free and open source and runs several agents, like AyCode.
- AyCode adds your notes and meetings as memory for your agents, on Mac, Windows and Linux (Windows and Linux in beta).

Where AyCode is different
- Your notes as memory: AyCode turns your Obsidian vault into a Second Brain that your agents can search and write to.
- Costs in one place: what each agent costs, with budgets you set yourself, and the 5-hour and weekly windows of Codex, Grok and Z.ai, in the usage view.
- More than code: AyNotes turns meetings into notes, Aylinge are agents with a name and routines, and team sessions put your team into one chat.
- Moving in: AyCode takes over chats from T3 Code and from Claude Code or Codex in the terminal as whole sessions, plus MCP servers and skills. How moving in works.
When another app is the better choice
- You only use Claude and want Anthropic’s own extras, such as computer use, Dispatch or cloud sessions: take Claude Desktop.
- You live in ChatGPT and only need Codex: take the ChatGPT app.
- Open source matters most to you: take T3 Code. AyCode is free, but its source is private.
- You want to edit code by hand with AI next to it: take an editor such as Cursor. AyCode runs agents and shows their changes; it is not an editor.

Questions
Is AyCode open source?
No. AyCode is free to download and use, but its source is private. If open source matters most, T3 Code is MIT licensed.
Can I keep Claude Desktop or the ChatGPT app next to AyCode?
Yes. AyCode uses the agent apps as they are installed and signed in on your computer. Nothing stops you from keeping the makers’ own apps as well.
Is AyCode an editor like Cursor?
No. AyCode runs coding agents, shows what they change line by line and commits for you. For typing code yourself you keep your editor.
