Google has been quiet at the top end for almost a year, and now its new DeepMind chief is hinting that the wait is nearly over.
What was said
According to reports citing The Information and The Verge (24 September), Koray Kavukcuoglu, the new head of Google DeepMind, said Gemini 4 is in the early days of post-training and should arrive "much earlier" than the end of the year. Google wants to put out an early post-training version "as soon as possible" and keep iterating quickly.
What is not known
A date, prices, specs and benchmarks: Google has not confirmed any of them. The last flagship series, Gemini 3, came out in November 2025.
Our take
"Much earlier than the end of the year" is a promise with a lot of room in it. Releasing early and iterating in public is how the others have been winning lately, so it makes sense that Google wants to do the same. We will believe the date when there is a model card.
In AyCode
AyCode runs Gemini through Antigravity, Google's coding agent. When Gemini 4 reaches Antigravity, you can put it next to Claude Code and Codex on the same task.
