# Fable 5.5: what the rumors claim, and what is actually known

X is sure Anthropic's Fable 5.5 is close and tied to its IPO. We sorted the claims from the facts. Short version: nothing is confirmed.

If you follow AI people on X, you have seen the name Fable 5.5 a lot this week. The story goes like this: Anthropic is saving its strongest model for the weeks before its IPO, and that model is Fable 5.5. It is a good story. Here is how much of it holds up.

## What is known

- Fable is a real model family. Anthropic's own Claude Code changelog names it: version 2.1.285 (29 September) gave interactive sessions a 1M token context window for "Opus 4.7+, Sonnet 5+, Fable".
- The 5.5 generation has started. The same changelog added Claude Sonnet 5.5 on 30 September and made it the default Sonnet.
- An IPO is in the works. Bloomberg reported in July that banks were scheduling investor meetings ahead of a planned Nasdaq listing, as summarized by StartupHub.ai. A date has not been announced.

## What is claimed

- A one-line prompt is enough. A seven-post thread by one X user describes grey-testing a model called Fable 5.5 that finished tasks from a single sentence "with expert-level attention to detail". Prompt Blueprints points out what is missing: no transcripts, no benchmarks, nothing anyone can repeat.
- Anthropic is quietly routing traffic to it. Another post says some requests already go to the new model, with a demo of a three-minute animation and an original score from one prompt.
- It is timed for the IPO. Several posts tie the launch to a roadshow in mid-October and a listing in early November. Those dates come from the posts, not from Anthropic or the banks.

## What is not known

Whether a model called Fable 5.5 exists at all, when it ships, what it costs and how it scores. We found no announcement from Anthropic.

## Our take

Rumors with a real name in them spread fast, and "the big model before the IPO" fits a little too neatly. Fable exists and the 5.5 numbers have started, so the name is plausible. Everything beyond that is one person's impressions and a lot of reposts. We will update this post the day Anthropic says something.
